Kindergarten Technology Today

Hello Parents!

Some of you may be wondering what this video is about! Well your child has been in school for almost a month now and we have been working very hard with them over these past couple weeks. Traditionally, classrooms never used anything that had to do with technology...maybe an outdated computer, but that was it. In my classroom we have been using all the emerging technologies out there. We have Smart Tables, iPads, Leapsters, and Promeathian Boards. The kids love to learn on these new technologies and I know that it helps them learn.

To understand how they are doing, each student has a special login number to use the certain technologies and it links them to there own personal account. I can log onto my computer and pull up and view how each student is doing. It is showing me their reading and math level and even it shows what your child may need help with. This is a great way for me to evaluate how each child is doing and what I may need to work on extra with them.

Now for the video, this video is from my last years class and all the technology that we incorporated throughout the year. I know some of you parents may be thinking...they sit all day long on iPads and computers?! No! We just do this for a certain time throughout the day. We still have a regular classroom teaching schedule, but this helps my students to learn how to read, write, and do math problems.

If you have any questions regarding the technology we use, don't be afraid to email me or leave a comment here! Thanks so much for reading, stay tuned for the next blog post! :)

The Start to a Great Adventure!

Welcome parents! My name is Melissa Bowman and I will be your child's Kindergarten teacher this year. I know you may be nervous about their first year in school, but don't worry...kindergarten is my specialty!

I have been teaching for three years now and I really love working with kindergartners. I love teaching and have always wanted to be a teacher. I think that school is important, especially in kindergarten because this year will leave a lasting impression on your child for the rest of their time in school.

I like to teach in a way that is different than others. I believe that students learn well when they are engaged by something. Thats what we call "kinesthetic learning." I love having activities, crafts, and group work. I also like to put students in groups and use technology to teach some of my lessons. Kids these days LOVE anything that has to do with technology and I find that they seem to pay more attention and learn better when technology is involved.

This year there are 21 children in my class and I know it will be a great year. This is a perfect amount of children to manage and they will get to know each other very well over the course of this year. If there is anything you need to not hesitate to ask me. I am here to help your child and you. This is going to be an amazing year!
